hello again chicago, goodbye vinyl

November 23rd, 2008 · No Comments · Vinyl

got back to chicago early this morning.

time to get rid of my shit.

biorhythm on the whiteboard.  if i remain faithful to it then i shouldn’t have to keep lists.

first stop: dusty groove records to get rid of some 12″s.  then on to craigslist for the remainder.

The Record Shelf as of 11.22.08

dusty did me right (157, way more than i expected), but there’s still a ton of records.  on to craigslist:

lots and lots of records for sale. almost all of them. come and take them all for $300 or come and take them in chunks for less.

chunks you might ask? why yes let me explain:

popular chunk: 60s, 70s, 80s rock and pop. example artists rolling stones, ac/dc, beach boys, rick james, michael bolton (yes!), duran duran, bruce springsteen, steely dan etc

country western chunk: wide range of artists, mostly 50s, 60s, and some 70s, specific emphasis on songs by and/or about cowboys and the west, some bluegrass stuff, lots of statler brothers etc, yes there is garth lol

soul/funk/jazz chunk: this is the stuff i tried to sell at dusty groove and they couldn’t take. not that they’re in bad shape (though a few of them are), dusty just has too much of it already or it’s too common or whatever. wide range from vocal stuff to instrumental to whatever.

spoken word/oddities chunk: cockatiel training album. how to become a better bowler. radio bloopers. rfk speeches. how to prospect your way to millions. the authentic sounds of antique music boxes. sounds effects records. childrens records. would be great for a DJ for scratching things or sampling.

comedy: nothing all that great but bases covered — firesign theatre, richard pryor, george carlin, dick gregory, cheech and chong, howie mandell, rusty warren

hawaiian/polynesian/tropical: i have tons of this stuff. despite my love for this kind of music it has to go. there was a time i had a special project in mind about hawaiian music but this is no longer that time. it’s a great project if you want to hear about it, if someone wants to take the ball and run with it that would be cool i just don’t have the time.

foreign: misc foreign stuff

classical: mostly rca red seals. always loved red seals for their covers. also some mhs.

exercise albums: mostly 80s although some earlier. i have a thing for women in spandex so i bought a ton of these. the richard simmons album “reach” is actually amazing btw, you will receive two copies (i am also keeping a copy).

in general i guess i should emphasize that except for the popular stuff, the emphasis is on the more obscure or weird items. at one time my collection was about four times this size. with each paring down, i got rid of the least interesting and kept the quirky.

these are all 12″, i have some 45s but i’m letting friends go through them first.

pickup from my place or i can deliver to the chicagoland area. in case of delivery, give me a few days to get them boxed up because i do not currently have boxes and i also work a lot.

free record player with purchase of all records. also if you buy them all i will disassemble the shelves and throw in those as well. these shelves were made well and lovingly.

offers for all records take precedence over offers for chunks; while i admire the idea of getting these chunks to the people who will love them best it may not be worth my time, i guess we’ll see how much interest there is. ????!?!???

thank you for taking the time to read my ad!

(pictured below is the better part of my collection. all 12″ for sale. there are probably another 200 or so pieces not pictured that are also for sale)

i have no idea if 300 is way too much or way not enough to charge for these records.
