Daniel here: Happy 4th of July everyone… Here’s a postcard from over 100 years ago, today.
Today we are all kicking it in Hartville OH, family-style, so it’s only appropriate that this piece has some familial background. Mother has some details, so I’ll let her fill you in…
Susan here: Many years ago, my dad generously offered me three post card albums full of family postcards, with one stipulation: I must keep them in the family, never sell or give them away. I accepted his offer! It dawned on me that posting on This Old Paper could be a way for the extended family and others to enjoy these postcards. Having been put away since our last move, I waited to open the albums until Daniel got here to celebrate this Fourth of July weekend. Ever-so-carefully, I lifted one of the albums out of the cardboard box. I opened the colorfully decorated blossom/dragonfly cover, gently turned crumbling, separated flyleaf. There on the first page, as if just waiting to be discovered, was this American Flag beauty. Auspicious! So begins our Schifferli postcard project!
