So many symbols for a lucky, happy, prosperous New Year are displayed on this postcard. Glittery four-leaf clovers entwine a horseshoe which frames boy and girl cherubs bearing a cornucopia of roses. Look closely for the ladybugs, another symbol of good luck. Perhaps all that’s missing are bluebirds of happiness, find them on a New Year Greetings postcard at Forgotten Bookmarks here!
Part of the Schifferli postcard project, this postcard was mailed with a 2-cent Washington US postage stamp from New York on December 22, 1905 to Mr. William Schifferli, Theologisches Convict, Innsbruck, Tirol, Austria. Maker of this postcard is unknown, but it is numbered on the reverse: 219. Is anyone able to identify the maker by this number or does anyone have a numbered card that would match this one?
A page full of lucky postcards are brought to you by The Church of Good Luck here. Karima Cammell of Castle in the Air did a write-up of New Year’s Day postcards in her December 29, 2008 post – Lucky Charms for the NewYear. Just scroll down to find it! Then pour a cup of tea and treat yourself to the rest of her wonderful, full-of-wonder writings.
Happy New Year!

Speaking of postcards – I have a subscriber to my covers that is looking for color images of the 1909 Lincoln postcard to use for a research project. I can be of little help, but I thought perhaps you might. Maybe he’ll get lucky!

Sorry, Dave, nary a Lincoln postcard in the whole lot of Schifferli postcards, comprising three albums. But your query sent me internet-searching for the 1909 Lincoln postcard. Here’s a look into an overview of several via The Afrolumens Project: http://www.afrolumens.org/rising_free/lincolnpc.html#start

Thanks! That led to a few more and I started looking as well. I’ll pass the link on.
